Presentation, Training & Meeting Facilitation Tool
Guide people around a set of concepts with interpretations, references, and sidenotes attached.
People can review later, observe themselves, or copy and modify with their own interpretations.
discussion notes can be added during meetings and presentations
Delegate's views can be added to an original presentation
As a presentation tool
Collective Interpretation and Understanding
Each person bringing their interpretations and noticed connections to form a shared understanding of the text and its implications.
Collaboratively reading and interpreting a shared document
Example: Implications and impact of a proposed or announced policy or strategy.
This assists and guides decision making.
Example: Implications and impact of reports and feedback to previous decisions.
Can continue on the same sphere with more information from later documents to amend and extend discussion on the matter.
Test
Complex Thinking
Permits you to operate on more connections and thoughts than you can fit in your head at once.
Example usecase: Requirements and design for complex systems with multiple related needs.
Communication
I work with colleagues on collaborative thortspheres concerning areas of disagreement while we're having a skype call about them.
As a kind of communication tool, by using the collaboration functionality.
It seems to make it easier for us to understand each other than only using video conferencing by itself.
Permits all parties to contribute simultaneously in interwoven directions without talking over each other.
Could reduce problems of ego and confidence; people no longer need to "speak up" to contribute.
and then allows others to take up sets of ideas which may include some of their own as well as others, and synthesize them in new ways.
Clearing Your Thoughts
Once something is down on a sphere along with its links to other things, the mind is less "busy" and free to move on.
As a kind of meditation tool... to "clear my mind". Things I am worrying about, or arguments I am having with myself.
Linking thoughts connects them so you can remember them and stop thinking about them, letting you clear your mind of "unorganised" noise.
User creates new sphere, fills with thoughts on their mind
Draws links, categorises where they perceive them
The act itself elucidates the concepts and "frees space" for new thoughts
Study/Revision Tool
Helps to form links between concepts by trying to relate them on the sphere.
As study tool - aiding in understanding and thus memorisation.
In the same way writing down information helps commit them to memory, putting down links helps commit the connections to memory.
Once existing study is committed to memory, it is easier to continue to learn more.
You have cleared your mind of "unorganised" thoughts by linking them and committing them to memory.
By storing links between concepts in a way you understand, helps remind you of things in revision.
Or writing them down now helps you refresh them, and shows you where you've forgotten what they were.
Organising thinking
Organising existing thinking about something. You may have a bunch of thinking about something, but have not organised that thinking very well.
Organising and connecting thoughts can lead to a better understand and new insights.
About The Process Itself
Possibly we want to distinguish between Use-cases and attributes of the process that enhance All uses cases.
Thortsphere enables Meta-thinking - thinnking about your thinking.
Analogy with "mirror" ... being able to see what you are thinking (like seeing what you are doing in the mirror).
Phil has talked about "Dynamic thinking" vs "Static thinking" ie. fluid/new thinking vs. habitual thinking ("having thoughts")
References "Wicked problems" ... don't have an algorithm to deal with a problem which hasn't been defined yet.
Problem solving
Both tangible and conceptual problems.
Problem solving.
Manipulate and link issues, resources, ideas, and insights into connections.
Time Management
You can organise tasks into groups and categorising them, coupled with an overhead view of the whole arrangement.
Managing time and determining what to do when.
This permits reviewing everything on your plate and what is currently happening without having to hold it all in your head at once.
External Memory
Effective for providing reminders to memory in a structured manner.
Auxiliary memory; keeping previous ideas and thoughts in a searchable structure of linked spheres.
Psychotherapy tool
Working with MPG psychologists to develop a Psychotherapy course in practical use of Attachment theory with integratedThort Processing software
Child Psychology Institute using Thought Processing software for PTSD in children
It enables patients to rapidly a) become observers of their emotions and b) move from being controlled by emotions to controlling them
